Well written article, and it's stuff I wish a lot of clients understood. Then again, that's why they need designers and such- right?

What makes a website great? Without a doubt one of the incredible attributes to a great and profitable is the site copy.

It starts with an incredibly compelling and captivating heading. Without a heading that captivated the reader and includes the number one benefit up front you run the inevitable risk of them hitting the back button. Statistics now prove that your average site visitor will hit the back button and leave your site forever within 4-9 seconds unless you give them a really good reason to stay.

Once you have the attention of your website reader you would now gain their further interest with a compelling message in a sub heading which will lead them to read your websites content.

The content should also be very interesting and not linger on. Get to the point and offer a solution. Remember figures prove that more than 92.6% of people using the internet are searching for a solution to a problem so the faster you give them their solution your website offers the faster you get their attention.

I'm also a huge fan of strong websites on the eyes of the search engines. One way to strengthen your website is by utilising a contextual link building service as it builds strong one way links to your website and lets face it, what do the search engines like most? Back links.

I totally agree with Paris - I was recently presented with quite a well known advertising agency's idea of a site template for a shared client. There was not one basic rule followed of what makes a great web design. Took some doing but I managed to convince the client to go a more tried and trusted route in the end. Great article Cheb!

excelent article! unforunatly thought most graphics designers cant understand the "Things are where the user expects them to be" the think that eevry new website shoul be diferent to be better, but in terms of usability thats false! if you dont have the main menu of a website where users expect it to be then they will simply leave.
